ANOTHER EXCELLENT SHOW! (Scroll down to see the photographs)
Ickenham & Swakeleys Horticultural Society
Autumn Show - Saturday 8 September 2012
A highlight of our Autumn Show was the prize-giving by The Worshipful The Mayor of Hillingdon who delighted those
attending with his lively presentation, showing a gentle sense of humour. Accompanying Councillor Michael
Markham was Hillingdon’s charming Mayoress who drew the winning tickets for the ‘super-raffle’ to which
so many local organisations and businesses had very generously contributed. The proceeds from this raffle
will be donated to the Mayor’s three nominated Charities for 2012-2013.
Almost 200 exhibits provided a lovely display with an excellent
number of entries in the Junior sections, together with a superb display of produce and photographs from the Glebe School
Gardening Club – and the creative ‘vegetable monsters’ were amazing … perhaps we do have a good future
in both horticulture and cookery!
the adult classes of note were Harry Dixon’s superb onions, Roger Trigg’s pot plants, John Stoke’s dahlias
and Margaret Mayes’ floral entries. Chris Lane’s wines gained firsts in
all the wine classes, and in the cookery section triumph for Beryl Upton’s coffee cake, as well as the usual fierce
competition in the Men’s Challenge Class.
Among the exhibitors, we were gratified to see several new names as well as regular supporters
so we welcome all newcomers to try their skills in next years Spring Show in April.
