ICKENHAM & SWAKELEYS HORTICULTURAL SOCIETY
Spring Show - 5 April 2014
An excellent array of
daffodils, tulips, spring flowers, pot plants and vegetables greeted the numerous visitors, together with adult handicraft,
photographic, wine and cookery exhibits - as usual the most hotly contested class being the 'Men's Challenge'
made to a given recipe but with an amazing variety of results! Once more the Junior classes were very well supported with most creative entries - again in horticulture, handicraft,
cookery and photography. Yet another wonderful display featured progress in Glebe Junior School's garden club, together
with their special award from the Royal Horticultural Society.
The Society was delighted to welcome the Mayor and Mayoress of Hillingdon who stayed for the whole duration of the
Show. The Mayor, Cllr Allan Kauffman, presented the Show awards and the Mayoress, Mrs Lynne Kauffman, drew
the winning tickets for the 'Super-raffle'- for which the excellent prizes had all been most generously donated by
local organisations and businesses, including estate agents, shops and restaurants. The substantial sum
raised will benefit the seven specific projects nominated as the Mayoral Charities for 2013-4.
The Society will again be present at Ickenham Festival Gala Day with the
usual array of plants for sale and some of the members on hand to give advice if needed.
