Full of autumn colour

After our long, hot and dry summer, we wondered if there would be any entries for our Autumn Show on 8th September. We need not have worried, as the Village Hall was a riot of colour and filled with floral art, Dahlias and other flowers, pot plants, vegetables and fruit as well as domestic, photographic and junior entries. The Horticultural judge acknowledged that the gardeners had had a difficult year, but he still found plenty to praise.

We reintroduced floral art at our Spring Show in April, and we were delighted by the number of entries in the two classes, ‘A Child’s Tea Party’ and ‘Bonfire Night’. The judge Suzie Barwick said it was a pleasure to see so many entries and had a very hard job to decide the winner of “Bonfire Night’, due to the high quality of all the arrangements.

Following judging, the prizes and awards were presented by Melanie Penney, Headteacher of Glebe Primary School. As well as admiring the display of produce from the Glebe School garden, she was pleased to see some of her pupils entering the junior show classes and the sunflower competition. This was won by the Jones family with a sunflower reaching a magnificent 337 cm!

There was a lovely atmosphere in the Hall as the community joined together to enjoy the show with ever popular tea and homemade cakes .It was lovely to welcome some new entrants too and we look forward to seeing them all return next year.

Trophies for the overall winners throughout the year will be presented at the Society’s AGM on 30th November, meanwhile here is a summary of ‘Best in Section’ certificate winners for this Show.
