Spring Show Saturday 7th April

Despite the recent very wintery spell , causing our gardens to stay dormant longer this year, there was still an excellent array of daffodils, tulips, spring flowers, pot plants and vegetables on display for the many visitors to our Spring Show that took place at Ickenham village Hall on Saturday 7th April.

The many people who visited the Show throughout the afternoon were greeted with beautiful blooms alongside some amazing handicrafts and cookery and wine exhibits. There was also a photographic competition which boasted some amazing close up shots of flowers and plants,  as well as some exotic scenes from around the world.

This year we have reintroduced two Floral Art classes, one for novices and one for experienced flower arrangers. We were very pleased with the entries in this show, and hope to have even more in the Autumn Show.

Glebe Junior School brought their exhibits as a tableau of bulbs in various containers including a tool box. Many thanks to Mrs Murray for setting up this wonderful display.

Our VIP guest Dennis Lewis, a member of the Ickenham Festival team, talked to us about Festival Week 2018, and encouraged members to open their gardens during the week. He also presented the prizes and the certificates of merit which were awarded as follows:

Daffodils                 Roger Trigg

Spring Flowers        Doug Neilson

Pot Plants               Roger Trigg

Handicraft               Ann Dixon

Domestic                David Lamb

Men’s Challenge      Roger Trigg

Photographic          Jill Watson

Wine                      Chris Lane

With tea and homemade cake on offer too, the hall was crowded all afternoon and we were delighted with the show’s overall success.

The Autumn Show will be held on Saturday September 8th at Ickenham Village hall Swakeleys Road Ickenham.
